Leeds Chamber - Lobbying and Representation
Workforce Development - "Building better business-education partnerships"
A well-educated, highly skilled and motivated workforce improves a business's productivity and forms the backbone of a successful economy. Therefore it is critical that employees are equipped with the necessary skills to meet the ever changing demands of business. Many of our members express concerns about the lack of basic skills amongst many school and college leavers. They are simply not prepared for the world of work.
Therefore Leeds Chamber continues to lobby for emphasis to placed on vocational training. The Government has taken action to resolve this with the National Skills Strategy with its proposed expansion of vocational training. Similarly changes to the National Curriculum to include enterprise activities has had an impact. The Chamber encourages these initiatives and proactively raises the awareness.
Leeds Chamber continues to work with a range of professional bodies including Education Leeds, the universities and colleges across the City and continues to lobby for a stronger emphasis on vocational training and for there to be a wider range of courses.
